It took many years to discover these elements. Hundreds of thousands worked and arranged the Periodic Table of Elements.

The basic design of the periodic table was thought up by Dmitri Mendeleev. It was his idea to arrange the elements according to Atomic Mass (because this gave repeating patterns of properties). Later it was discovered that atomic charge was what was really important. Eventually the gaps Mendeleev left were filled in by the discovery of more elements, so while many scientist contributed to the modern periodic table Mendeleev is considered to have invented it.

The Periodic Table was put together by a Russian college professer named Dmitri Mendeleev. He did it to help his students remember the elements that were on the table at the time.

How did Dmitri Mendeleev figure out how to put the first periodic table together?

Mendeleev realized that the physical and chemical properties of elements were related to their atomic mass in a 'periodic' way, andarrangedthem so that groups of elements with similar properties fell into vertical columns in his table.
