No. You do not have to have it to upgrade to CS5. CS5 can either be an upgrade if you already own an older version but it is also a fully functional program on its own. if you do not have any versions of Photoshop you would need to buy and install CS5. Then later on if another version comes out you then can upgrade to that version for cheaper.
Tools are basically actions or tasks that you can perform in Photoshop like adding text to image or draw shape. Every tool have its own icon for to recognize and activate it from Toolbox. Toolbox is located on left side of Photoshop window.
Portable Document Format. It's like an un-modifiable text document. Photoshop can output to it.
Each copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6 has its own password. If a person needs a password, it will be located on the back of the box that is purchased.
