The Boston Massacre occurred because the Bostonians were protesting the presence of the British Forces being in there, the Bostonians were throwing snowballs at them and throwing rocks at them. The British soldiers shot at them to make them stop, and in the aftermath 5 Bostonian colonists were killed while the others ran away.
The democratic traditions that were threatened by Parliament's policies were town meetings, replacing the elected council, and the governor's power over the colonists.
