Guests usually agree to appear voluntarily: they get good publicity, the show gets good ratings, and the viewers get to see somebody famous. It is considered a win for everyone. Of course, some people may dislike a president or a celebrity and not want to see them, but the View always tries to feature whoever the most influential people are, and more often than not, they seem to choose the guests a majority of people want to see.
