Long before the J.C. Superstar, the whole idea of actors and actresses playing supernatural beings or posthumous saints- was , to put it mildly, tricky and in the category of not banned but ( Be Careful) the utmost piety and religious treatment of the subject was demanded, and no comic relief or humor- unfortunately this can lead to statue-like wooden portrayals. I never saw the l952 Fatima film, but am aware of the fact that the actress Linda Darnell, who died tragically in l965 from fire-related burns, played the Virgin Mary- uncredited, in the film ( The Song of Bernadette) about the life and career of Ste. Bernadette of Lourdes, background music, special effects and animated statues are often used to give an ( Other worldly) effect. It is possible this was done with the l952 Fatima film- and an actress, using appropriate sound effects voiced the Mary Of Fatima role- it was claimed the Virgin had ( Musical tones) something that one might associated with the now-incarcerated Wall of Sound man-the Very stones cry out! kidding aside it poses formidable taste and special effects problems.
