Most famous actors could fine at least one role to play, even if they played someone of the opposite gender or changed the characters around a bit (which often happens when a cast is being chosen for a show).

The lead roles in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" are typically the characters of Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena. These characters are part of the four young lovers caught up in a tangled romantic situation in the play.

The play's been around for 415 years, so lots of actors have had a go at it. Will Kempe was probably the first Bottom. Other Bottoms were Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Samuel Phelps, the late Pete Postlethwaite and Ralph Richardson. The Beatles once played the Pyramus and Thisbe scene (The donkey was Paul). Mickey Rooney played Puck when he was a kid; so did Ellen Terry when she was little. Probably the best accretion of talent in one production was the 1968 Peter Hall production, immortalized on film, which cast included Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Ian Holm, Ian Richardson and Diana Rigg.
