Sampson, a Capulet, makes a rude gesture (he "bites his thumb") and Abram, a Montague, approaches him and asks "Do you bit your thumb at us, sir?"
Abram has all of five lines in the play. Two of them are the same: "Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?" The other three consist of sentences of two words, neither more nor less: "Quarrel, sir? No, sir", "No better?" and "You lie." That's not a lot to work with. But, if you were an actor playing the part of Abram you would have to make some kind of choices as to what kind of guy he is from just these lines, as well as from the fact that Abram has no aversions to getting into a fight with Samson. You could play him as the strong silent type, whose laconic answers indicate caution and self-control, like some kind of Western hero. Or you could play him as merely stupid.

King Arthur, Sir Bedivere, Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad and Sir Bors (he's the guy who gets decapitated by the killer rabbit) are all the names of characters in the King Arthur stories. Strangely enough, the King Arthur legends tell us very little about the enchanter Tim, Roger the Shrubber, the Castle Aaaaaargh, or King Arthur's horse Patsy.

Biting your thumb at someone back then is the equivalent to giving someone the middle finger today. It's just a rude gesture intended to make the Capulets angry. When they are asked "Are you biting our thumb at us, Sir?" and respond saying "I do bite my thumb sir." That would be the same as when people subtly give you the middle finger and say that isn'thow they meant it.

Philosopher Zeno of Citium is often credited with this idea. He believed that making a promise established a moral obligation on the individual to fulfill it, as it involves a voluntary commitment and an expectation of trust from others. This idea ties into the concept of integrity and the importance of keeping one's word in ethical decision-making.
