This question is answered in the affirmative below. However, that is not true. He was an active Anglican (in fact, he was Senior Warden at Pohick Church in Lorton, VA). His activities during the war showed a firm belief in Jesus. His belief in the Constitutional statement on religion meant that he welcomed any religion, not no religion.
