The Catholic Church was started by Jesus Christ when he said And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, in Matthew 16 verse 13.
Build a church upon this rock.
The Virgin Mary was Jewish. Her Son Founded the Church when He Said to St. Peter "And upon this Rock, I Will Build My Church." (St. Matthew chapter 16)
This would mean this is the person you count on. The one who provides stability. Someone you can rely on. Think it arises from what Jesus allegedly said to Peter, "you are the rock upon which I will build my church."
Our Lord Jesus Christ, established the Christian church, when he made St Peter the Rock upon which he would build his Church.
There has been much debate as to who or what Christ was referring to when He said "Upon this rock..." The Catholic church say that He was referring to Peter as being the Rock on which He (Christ) would build His church. Mormons believe that when Christ asked Peter who he was and Peters reply was "The Christ...". Christ then referred to this knowledge as being given to Peter by revelation, and this was what Christ meant when He said "Upon this Rock.." meaning the Rock of Revelation". As Mormonism was not organized at the time of Peter he was a disciple of Christ and a member of His flock. He later became the President of the church along with James and John as his counselors. BUT the church was nor built upon Peter, he was only its first President.
Simon had just answered that Jesus was the Christ. This is what Jesus was referring to when he said upon this you will build my church. Then, he renamed Simon the Rock. It is confusing but Jesus did not yet want everyone to know that he was declared the Savior. If you read the entire scripture in context it is clearer.
Jesus named him Petrosz, meaning rock in Greek: 'thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church , [Matthew 16:18].
Makes no sense... please improve question! To which rock are you referring, mam? There are lots and lots of rocks in the USA and other countries, However, please explain "All movie name of the rock." Does this means all movies from the beginning of sound which have named the rock? Or, could it be to Jesus, referring to Peter as the rock: He said, "this is the rock, and upon this rock I will build my church."
Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is rarely used by the Catholic Church. . Yes. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
First answerNot in his lifetime. He told Peter that he (Peter) was the rock upon which the church would be built, but the building of the church was probably more the work of the Holy Spirit at, and following, Pentecost.
