Ferdinand Magellan led the first expedition to successfully circumnavigate the globe from 1519 to 1522. Although he did not survive the entire journey, his expedition provided strong evidence supporting Columbus' theory regarding the world's size and the feasibility of reaching Asia by sailing west. The voyage ultimately demonstrated that the Earth is round and significantly expanded European knowledge of global geography.
To prove that his theory that the earth was round * Added - Columbus and the educated men of the world knew the earth was round, but Columbus was looking for the best route to the East for trade. He sought to prove te best route wa sby travelling west.
He should have sailed west or else he probably couldn't have sailed AROUND the world. He sailed west to find a route to Asia, and to prove that when you go west, you can hit Asia, to prove the world was round, i think. Then he hit America, naming the Native Americans "Indians" because he thought he was already in Asia.
Columbus originally was determined to prove that
He wanted to be a sailor all his life since he was alittle child.
He hoped to bring that if you settle East you can make it to Asia.Which that didn't happen because he fount a new world (North America) and he didn't prove that you can settle East and make to Asia. But he did prove that the WORLD is NOT flat is round or he would of made it to Asia. Hope this helped:)
