Gene Autry recorded the first well-known version. Johnny Marks wrote the song, based on an earlier written story, so Marks probably sang it before Autry picked it up.

Rudolph the red nose reindeer, had a very shiny nose, (Like A Lightbulb) and if you ever saw it, you would even say it glowed. (Like A Disco Ball) All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names. (Like Pinocchio) They never let poor Rudolph, join in any reindeer games.
