What is the difference between an avenue and a street?
Historically, an avenue was a road that led to a particular building, while a street was any roadway in a city. Avenues were lined with trees. In some cities, such as New York, streets running one direction (such as north-south) are called avenues while streets running the other direction are known as streets. In other cities, such as Chicago, there is no distinction between streets and avenues.

Asked in Math History
What famous mathmatician arose from his bathtub after solving a math problem running into the streets crying eruka?
Actually, it is not what but who. The famous mathematician that cried Eureka is Archimedes. He proved that an object plunged into liquid becomes lighter by an amount equal to the weight of liquid it displaces; popular tradition has it that Archimedes made the discovery when he stepped into the bathtub, then celebrated by running through the streets shouting "Eureka!" ("I have found it!").
