First, the individual is elected to parliament by the people, though the cannot specify that the individual is to be prime minister. Then as the leader of the largest party the person is put forward to be voted on by members of the parliament for the position of Prime Minister. So it is the parliament that actually elects the prime minister to their position. The head of state then usually officially gives them their seal of office.

The PM is chosen in elections - the leader of the winning party becomes the PM. The Queen does not choose him, she has to invite him to form a government, though.

∙ 6y agoIt is I who select the prime minister of a country. Jk, in Great Brittin there is a multi-party system for the government, there are not just 2 main parties like in the US, there are many. During the general election, the people vote for an MP to represent their local area in the House of Commons. Then the leader of the party that wins the most seats in the House becomes the prime minister.
