Just about every president serves 2 consecutive years. Each presidential term last 4 years. It is less common for presidents to serve 2 consecutive terms though. The most recent example of that is President Barack Obama, who won the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses Grant, William McKinley, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have also served consecutive terms.
Grover Cleveland
President Grover Cleveland was indeed our 22nd and 24th president. He is the only president that has served 2 terms not consecutively.
every US president is limited to 2 terms, regardless of whether they served them consecutively or fragmented. There has yet to be a president to serve once, wait a term, and serve again. Fun Fact: although presidents may only serve for 3 terms, an individual may serve for 10 years as president. A vice president may serve for 2 years, in the absence of a president, and the term would not count towards his total term.
As of 2017, no President has served for exactly two years, but the closest was Warren Harding at two years and five months.
George Washington served two terms and then declined a third.
I believe the answer to that question is 4. Every 2 years there is an election and after a president has served for 2 years he can go up for reelection. Hope this helps!
In order to serve 6 years, a president would either have to spend two years completing the term of the previous president and then be elected to a term of his own, or else leave office after serving two years of his second term. Lyndon Johnson came the closest to serving 6 years - about 2 months over. Coolidge served about 6 1/2 years. I believe all the rest who served more than 4 years served seven or more.
Since Franklin D. Roosevelt, no US President has served more than eight years.
Dwight D. Eisenhower served two 4-terms for a total of 8 years as President of the United States of America, from 1953 January 20 to 1961 January 20. This was the only political office that Eisenhower held in his lifetime, as he came from a military background, famously acting as the Supreme Allied Commander of Allied Forces in Europe after WWII. Before becoming the 34th president, Eisenhower was a five-star general who served during World War 2.
Gerald Ford was only president for 2 years and 5 months. Whoever told you he served longer than 8 years is incorrect.
4 years Renewable once. A president can serve a max of 10 years if the Vice President gains office. He may then run for two more years.
Jackson served 2 terms which is 8 years. He didn't want to have a longer term than the Presidents before him, so he didn't sign for another term even though he probably would have won.
