Burgesses, or in other words, representatives
The ancient Greeks are often credited with setting an example for representative government. They created the concept of democracy, where citizens had the right to participate in the decision-making process through voting and electing representatives. Their system of government, albeit limited to a specific group of citizens, served as a foundation for the development of representative governments in the future.
The Virginia House of Burgesses was the first example of representative government.
