US, July 16, 1945, Trinity site, NM, in what is now White Sands Missile Range.
US, who else?
At the Trinity site in New Mexico. Now part of the White Sands Test area. The first used in war was at Hiroshima Japan.
first off, of course, a nuclear bomb is thousands of times stronger than a normal bomb. a nuclear bomb also carries radiation, energy that causes poisoning and cancer, while most normal bombs cant do that.
In the history of warfare, only two nuclear weapons have been detonated offensively. The first was at Hiroshima, Japan, and the second was at Nagasaki, Japan. The weapons, the Little Boyand the Fat Man respectively, were dropped by the U.S. There was one nuclear test, the so-called Trinity test, that preceeded these bombings. In that test, the U.S. actually set off a nuclear device for the first time in history. Following that successful test, the other two bombs were built and deployed.
The Trinity test shot was done to verify the Plutonium implosion mechanism. The Hiroshima bombing was the beginning of nuclear war with Japan to force them to surrender.
There were no nuclear tests in Mississippi.
Trinity, Little Boy, Fat Man, Able, Baker, ...
yes
no!
It explodes.
Nor the first and the second nuclear bomb went off at about 2000 feet.
Mainly that it would bring the war to a quick end. Which it did.
