Elise is the good choice, and the townspeople are the bad choice, many say. In truth, there is no morality difference, so it is all a matter of personal preference. I've done the game 3 times, so you can take my word.

∙ 12y agoi killed the towns people so i could find elise and marry her. if you kill the towns people, elise is really hard to find. so the right way to go is to kill elise because it is one life or 1 thousand.
