The "owners" will usually beat them up to do there work such as cook, clean, pick cotton, etc. The owners will not kill the slave because they were worth money. If a slave has a disease they would kill them in that case because they don't want the other slave to get sickWell, during the 18Th century it wasn't that "bad". Owners didn't beat their slaves. Slaves weren't even known as slaves, they were known as Indentured Servants. (People who do labor work) But they are paid for it, and when they are done working they are done being indentured slaves. During the 19Th century things got really harsh.
