Jesus founded it. The church began 50 days after Jesus' resurrection (c. A.D. 35). Jesus had promised that He would build His church (Matthew 16:18), and with the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), the church-ekklesia (the "called-out assembly")-officially began. Three thousand people responded to Peter's sermon that day and chose to follow Christ.

Christianity was started by Jesus Christ when he started preaching his doctrine of love, this was done in the few years before his death. Followers of the "Church of Jesus Christ" were the original Christians. Christ preached many of the same truths that had been given to Israel, Gods covenant people with the new laws that were to be in effect after the Messiah came fulfilling the Messianic Prophecies.

All who belong to the "Church of Jesus Christ" are in effect members of the house of Israel. For they are following Gods true plan for the redemption of his children.

The doctrine of Christ has been taught throughout history to all living prophets, Starting with Adam, so in Effect you could say that Adam and Eve were the first Christians because they believed in Christ and followed the teachings of God.

Jesus Christ, Yahweh, the Messiah, has always been a part of the house of Israel, and It could be said that all Jews are Christians who simply have not accepted that Jesus Christ was and is the Messiah.

There are also Jews that do not believe in a literal Messiah. Teachings have been lost and corrupted over the millenia by the agenda and pride of man, but God continues to pour out his love and teachings to us.

So in effect, Jesus Christ started Christianity when he gave Adam the first commandments, He Continued those Teachings throughout history with prophets through His Covenant with Abraham that his seed would be the lords Covenant people. That blessing and promise continues to today.
