Who started the Holy Trinity?

Apparently the Catholic Church started the concept of the Holy Trinity. From what I've read the concept of a Holy Trinity goes farther back than the Catholic Church and is seen throughout history in different faiths and religions.

An interesting aspect of the concept of the Holy Trinity is the Jehovah's Witnesses hatred for the concept but if one was even to read the Jehovah's Witnesses translation of The Bible you will see that Jesus said, in the last few chapters of Matthew, to his diciples to "go now and baptize in the name of the father, the name of the Son and in the name of the Holy Spirit.

The name of the Father: Jehovah, Yaweh, etc.

The name of the Son: Jesus.

The name of the Holy Spirit: There is no name mentioned...

If you then read up the Acts of the Apostles you will see that they were baptizing in the name of Jesus Christ.

So, conceptually, Jesus Christ is the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spririt. Jesus being as humble as he was could never tell his diciples to baptize in his name.

I think it was Saint Augestine? He was one of the early Christian theologians, all though he was called a saint. I think this was around 500 AD? Pretty sure. From Hippo?

I took a religion class that discussed this specific issue about 4 years ago, but that's one of the things that stood out to me, because It kind of unlocked the train of thought that most ideas about religion were created outside of the source (in this case being Jesus, Yeshua, whatev). So understanding that a religious view is and can be different from your own interpretation of whatever remaining doctrine is at your disposal (Bible, Gnostic Bibles, Dead Sea Scrolls, etc.) is quite enlightening. Doesn't necessarily take away from the message, just paints a more dynamic picture of the message that was intended. :)
