The term "sons of the prophets" found in First and Second Kings suggests perhaps a rudimentary type of "Bible college." There must have been some kind of teaching and/or training involved among these groups scattered around Israel. These appear to revolve around Elijah and later Elisha [9th century bc]
I Kings 20:35; II Kings 2; 4; 5; 6.
The term "company of the prophets" is used in I Samuel, however... which may suggest him as the possible central figure of origin [11th century bc]:
"...when they saw the company of the prophetsprophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them..." (I Sam.19:20).
But, of course, Samuel was "appointed" by God:
"Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you..." (John 15:16).
