John Wycliffe in the late 14th century was one of the earliest to translate a great deal into English. Tyndale wrote the most prominent English translation of which several later versions listed below based their wording upon his. There were some seven versions of the same line that lead up to the largest and most enduring of English translations the King James. It was preceded by the Tyndale, Coverdale, Geneva, Bishops, The Great Bible, Matthews.
