In 1840, Edward Oxford attempted to assassinate her while she was riding in a carriage with Prince Albert. He fired two shots but both missed.

On 29 May 1842, John Francis aimed a pistol at her but did not fire. The next day as she rode down the same street, he did fire his pistol, but he also missed. Then on 3 July, John William Bean fired a pistol at the Queen, but it was loaded with powder and paper. In 1849, William Hamilton fired a pistol with no bullet at Victoria's carriage.

The Fenians ( a sort of forerunner of the Irish Republican Army) certainly would have had plots or at least scares against Her Majesty. Anglo-Irish hostility goes back to Elizabethan times ( as has been hinted in movies) and is both religious and political. One wonders if the Papal Summit between Queen Elizabeth II and John Paul II may have toned things down in modern times- this was during the Falklands wars.
