From the time of the Edict of Toleration issued by Galerius, there was no further persecution of Christians by the pagan empire. In fact, from the time of Constantine there was to be only one further pagan emperor -Julian the Apostate. Although Julian sought to re-establish paganism, he was also impressed by Christianity and did nothing to persecute the faith, although he censured the Christians for the savage warfare which raged within their own ranks.

After Galerius, the only persecution of Christians was to be from other Christians.
