It really depends on how you look at it. Most, if not all, would say Islam won. But some could argue that the Christians won. The whole thing started when pope Urban sent troops to defend Constantinople from Muslim invaders. This was a victory but he wanted more. He sent units out on a nother mission. Really, the entire set of crusades' purpose was to take the Christian holy land back from the Muslims, this land is Jerusalem. The Christians succesed in the attack and ruled for 47 years. Then the Muslims took it back. They made it so Christians can't step foot onto the holy land. After several other battles, Islam finally declared a Jihad. This forced every able bodied soldier to fight in the war. Islam slaughtered the Christians. The historians that say the Christians won state that their primary objective, defending Constantinople was a victroy, and the Christians were now allowed to walk on the holy land. But technically, Islam ultemitaley won the crusades.
