The steam locomotive, through its development and expansion across North America, contributed to the displacement and destruction of native American tribes and their land. It led to forced removals, destruction of traditional ways of life, and contributed to conflicts over territory and resources.
Many Native American men were scouts, hunters, warriors, teachers, protectors, workers and healers. Traditionally, the men were usually the leaders of the tribe.
