Amalek was Esau's grandson (by Eliphaz and Timna (Genesis 36:12), one of the sheiks of Edom, and the father of the Amalekite population.(Genesis 36:15+16).
The Amalekites were the first to attack the Israelites after they came out of Egypt(Exodus 17:8) and for this, God sentenced them to destruction(Deuteronomy 25:17+18/1 Samuel 15:1-7)at the hand of Saul. Saul, however, disobeyed God, and for this, lost his kingship and his relationship with God(1 Samuel 15:8-28).
The Bible portrays the Amalekites as inhabitants of an area in southern Palestine, and as implacable foes of the Israelites. There are suggestions that they were very tall, possibly giants.
The only biblical references to the Amalekites is the context of biblical events that may themselves have been unhistorical, and there is no mention at all by the Egyptians of this race of people, although Egypt was the undisputed master of the entire region at that time. It is highly likely that the Amakelites never really existed.
Amalek attacked the Israelites in Refidim (Exodus 17). See also 1 Samuel ch.15.
Amalek
The Amalekites likely worshiped a variety of Canaanite deities, such as Baal and Asherah, along with other gods of the region. Their religion would have included rituals and practices common to the ancient Near East.

According to Jewish tradition, yes; and this is referred to when the scroll of Esther identifies him as The Aggagite. Agag was a king of Amalek in 1 Samuel ch.15.

In Exodus ch.17, we read:8 Then Amalek came, and fought with the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua: 'Pick some men, and go out and fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.' 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; but when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it for him to sit upon; and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one man on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands remained steadfast until sunset.
