Emile Berliner was a famous inventor who invented the carbon microphone in 1877 (at the same time as Thomas Edison), the gramophone in 1887, and in 1888 invented a simpler way to record sound by using discs. Berliner's also invented a new type of loom, an acoustic tile, and an early version of the helicopter.
