After Issac blessed Jacob as his heir, it was recommended that Jacob run off to live with Laban since Esau was gonna be really mad at him. Esau was mad and took a wife from Ishmael's daughters just to get back at Issac for the whole blessing snafu. Jacob was held up in Haran for 20 years, all the while building up his own personal fortune. Which would mean for 20 years Esau was the only one left to take charge of Issac's estate. And why would he not assume Jacob had abandoned his inheritance.
