Khabul Khan was the paternal great-grandfather of Genghis Khan (May 31, 1162? - August 25, 1227).
Specifically, Khabul Khan was the great leader of the Khamag Mongol state on the Mongolian plateau. He could have been succeeded by any one of his seven sons, included among whom was Genghis' Grandfather Bartan-Baghatur. But he chose Ambaghai, a relative from the ancient Taichuud clan of central Mongolia.
