St. Jesse is usually given as a form of Josse - the french original or Judoc the Breton/English form. He was a 7th century Breton nobleman, who eventually became a hermit, after his death c668, a monastery was built on the site of his hermitage; when this was under attack, the monks fled, taking the saints remains to England, where they were reburied in Hyde Abbey, Winchester - where they remained until the Reformation destroyed them. Never officially canonised, his cult became widespread during the Middle Ages, along English trading routes - Scandinavia, Low Countries and Germany - where he was called Joos, Joost and Jocelyn. Chaucer has the Wife of Bath swearing to truth 'by St. Joce' - our saint. Feast day 13th December.
There is no specific year known for when Saint Jesse was born, as there is no historical record of a Saint Jesse in Christian tradition. It is possible that Jesse is a reference to Jesse, the father of King David in the Bible, but his birth year is also not specified.
Jesse, the father of King David, is an Old Testament patriarch and not accorded the titke of saint nor a feast day.
