Sir Humphrey Davy was the discoverer of the elements potassium, sodium and several others. He was a chemist and inventor who lived 1778-1829. He developed the study of electrochemistry. He also invented practical things such as the miners' safety lamp.

It is not known where exactly in England sodium was discovered. It was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1807.
Sir Humphry Davy isolated the element potassium in 1807 by using electrolysis to extract it from caustic potash (potassium hydroxide).
