One of the unusual features of The Beatles is they had a very wide appeal; teenage girls would scream, teenage boys would admire. The Beatles rise to fame was when the baby-boomer generation (people born shortly after WW2 finished) were becoming teenagers - almost half the UK population were under 20, so they had a huge audience.
As well as young people, songs such as Yesterday or When I'm 64 appealed to older people.
