Actually yes they did. The reason wasn't because they lost that eye but for fighting on a ship. When they would go below deck, they would move the patch from the eye that was covered to the eye that was in the light. The eye that was covered was already acclimated to the dark. They wasn't blinded by going from bright sunlight into darkness.

The combat patch and the CIB are separate awards. Any soldier who goes to war is awarded a combat patch. Any infantry soldier below the rank of colonel who is assigned to a line unit, engages in battle against the enemy and survives is awarded the CIB.If you have a CIB you also have a combat patch; having a combat patch doesn't necessarily mean you have the CIB.
There are many different ways that caused pirates to wear an eyepatch. It could have been stabbed out by a stick or a sowrd. Or maybe they never lost their eye, it could have been blind from their birth. Another reason that they may have worn an eyepatch is if they have a lazy eye. It is also possible that nothing was wrong with any of their eyes, maybe they just liked how it looked on them.
Any soldier assigned or "attached for rations, quarters and UCMJ" to the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, NC, wears this patch.

The wing patch is placed 1/2 inch below the seam centered on the left shoulder on the BDU uniform. On the flight suit, it is attached with velcro in the same position as the BDU's. Please note that the wing patch is no longer authorized for wear on the Air Force blue uniform. Any other questions on wear of the Civil Air Patrol uniform can be referenced to the following regulation: CAPR 39-1
