It depends on who you would consider important. There was Leonardo de Vinci and Michelangelo as some of the most well-known figures. You could also count the rich nobles or the Catholic Church which sponsored and paid these men for their contributions to the works they made. You could even consider those who gave the materials necessary to make art, such as the men who mined the marble that made the statues.
