The Persian Empire agreed to withdraw from the Greek city-states in Asia. Athens converted the Greek city-states which it was allegedly rescuing from the Persian Empire into an empire of its own. Another answer: After 50 years of fighting in which Persia suffered increasing losses, the Peace of Callias was agreed in 449 BCE. The Greek city-states were then free to return to their usual fighting each other, resulting in the Peloponnesian War, a destructive 27-year conflict which settled little, and led to further wars.
See "Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988)."
