B/c when you brake, the tire will have to push against the road surface, when you accelerate, the tire will have to push against the road surface, when you corner, the tire has to push against the road surface. And every time the tire is forced agaist the road surface, a tiny, tiny bit of it is ripped loose, and eventually the tire wears out.

You would need more force to push a wheelbarrow across a dirt road than a wood floor because of the friction created between the dirt road and the wheelbarrow wheels.

It would not be able to move. The push of the engine driving the car forward depends on friction between the tyres and the road. If something else started it moving, the brakes couldn't work to stop it.
