When they say lover, they mean something like a "Girlfriend" remember he was only thirteen when he slaughtered all Uchiha's; seeing how he was a stunning Uchiha and how everyone was impressed by his abilities, it simply means he killed a "Girlfriend" it does not mean "Lover" as in sex partner.
He did kill his girlfriend/lover but it's not stated in manga who was his girlfriend.
