We do know who the Boston Strangler was. Albert DeSalvo confessed to these crimes and others after police chased him down while trying to worm his way into yet another woman's apartment.
DeSalvo killed 13 women in the Boston area in the early 1960s. In prison, DeSalvo retracted his confession, and tried to blame a fellow inmate for the crimes but in the end it was obvious he was the killer.
DeSalvo's attorney, a then young F. Lee Bailey, was convinced that his client was the Strangler, but the most compelling evidence was that once DeSalvo was jailed the crimes stopped.
DeSalvo was stabbed in prison by another inmate ending the era of the Strangler.
