Following the end of Carroll's term as Governor, Sam Houston (born March 2, 1793 in Rockbridge County, Virginia; died July 26, 1863 in Huntsville, Texas) became the seventh Governor of Tennessee, serving between October 1, 1827 and April 16, 1829.
