Washburn (born April 22, 1818 in Livermore, Maine; died May 15, 1882 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas) succeeded Lucius Fairchild as the eleventh Governor of Wisconsin, serving between January 1, 1872 and January 5, 1874. Following the end of Washburn's term as Governor, William Robert Taylor (born July 10, 1820 in Connecticut; died March 17, 1909 in Burke, Wisconsin) became the twelfth Governor of Wisconsin, serving between January 5, 1874 and January 3, 1876.
