Garret A. Hobart was William McKinley's first Vice-President, from March 1897 until his death in November 1899. There was no U.S. Vice President from November 1899 through March 1901 and from September 1901 through March 1905. Theodore Roosevelt was Vice President for six months in 1901 before President McKinley was assassinated.
