Ctesibus was a Greek inventor who made water clocks with moving figures on them.
The first robot was made in the year 2029. Its purpose was to be sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor and by doing so, alter the future as we know it as she would eventually bear a child named John Connor that would save the human race. However the robot given the name "Terminator" would eventually be crushed by a heavy piece of metal thus failing its mission and purpose for having been made in the first place.

Any Encyclopedia will report that clocks were invented in ancient times, as sundials are primitive clocks. As for mechanical clocks, there are public clocks from the 14th which are still on display in the Science Museum in Britain. See http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/on-line/wells-clock/index.asp

Candle Clocks
There is an hourglass. There is also a water clock. Sun dials also existed which used the position of the sun and a shadow to tell the time. There were also such things as incense clocks and candle clocks.
They originally used sundials in ancient times (no exact year). Some report water clocks as far back as 4000 BC. As for the very first clock, none of the first clocks survived from 13th century Europe so it is known conclusively who the individuals were or what the clocks were.
