It was techically William B. Travis but because of political issues inside the Alamo he jointly commanded with James Bowie. When Bowie got sick from tuberclerosis he passed full command to Travis. Travis was one of the first men to die in battle while fighting off Mexicans. He was shot with a single bullet in the head. Bowie was killed in bed, some claimed that he killed a few men with him.
