General's Thieu (president) and Nguyen Cao Ky were the common Southern leaders known to the US public. Ky was a swash-buckling A-1 Skyhawk (propeller driven airplane) pilot during the war; made quite a reputation in the US.
The Republic of South Vietnam SURRENDERED to the North Vietnamese Army on April 30, 1975; when NVA Tanks crashed through the South Vietnamese Capital's gates. Although, when the South Viet Commander met the NVA commander and stated that he wished to surrender his forces to him, the NVA commander stated, "...you have no forces left to surrender!"
the aussies were alies and fought in the Vietnam war with the Americans. (and of course the South Vietnamese - the Americans were paticipants on their side).
The southern side.
Certainly yes. Our goal was to stop the spread of communism which the North Vietnamese(Communists) was going to or planning to invade the South Vietnamese. The South Vietnamese dressed the same as the Charlies(Vietcong) and north vietnamese though so it was a stressful time just to confirm who was who.
NVA T-54/55 Main Battle Tanks crashed through the South Vietnamese Government's Capital gates on 30 April 1975, parking their tanks on the capital's front lawn. The South Vietnamese Commander, GEN Minh (representing the South's Gov't) went out to meet the NVA commander and stated, "...I am here to surrender my forces to you...", the NVA commander replied, "...you have no forces left to surrender!"
North Vietnamese money or South Vietnamese money? There were two countries.
What happened to the NORTH Vietnamese? Or what happened to the SOUTH Vietnamese people?
Obtaining accurate figures for the South Vietnamese Government Forces (ARVN, South Vietnamese Marines, South Vietnamese Air Force, South Vietnamese Navy) is difficult, as SOUTH Vietnam has NOT EXISTED for over a quarter of a century. Northern casualties can be estimated. Southern casualties can be estimated. See sites: Vietnam War Casualties & Statistics about the Vietnam War.
During the war, they were allies. As of May 1975, the South Vietnamese didn't exist anymore.
It depends on who "we" refers to and how a person defines the "right" side. According to the current Vietnamese government, the United States fought on the wrong side of the Vietnam War. The Vietnamese government claims that South Vietnam was really a puppet state of the United States in its intent to colonize all of Vietnam and the North Vietnamese were helping the South achieve freedom, liberation, and unification. The United States narrative is that it was protecting the South Vietnamese people against North Vietnamese aggression, violent conquest, and the spread of communism, similar to how they had defended South Korea and Taiwan previously.
North or South?
