That is a difficult question to answer because hip hop existed before there were record deals. Many rappers were performing at parties, clubs, talent shows and in the park before any act was signed.
I would offer that Sha-Rock (Sharon Green) from the group the Funky Four Plus One was the 1st female MC's in hip hop.
I would say that the biggest commercial airplay hits at the time with females rapping were Rapture by Blondie and Square Biz by Tina Marie
This is such a broad question that it's hard to come up with a definitive answer, however I would argue that Josephine Baker might have been one of the very first African Americans to reach international superstar status in the entertainment world. She had to do it in France though, because when she started out in the U.S., black entertainers were not widely accepted.
I do believe blues legend Bessie Smith might run a close second (but may have started out earlier), however her entertainer status was limited to records, while Josephine was a recording artist, stage performer, film star, and model.
This isn't to say, also, that there are many unsung heroes who have come and gone and have been forgotten by history. The very word 'entertainer' is so broad that it could encompass basically anyone who stood on a stage and performed, and by that measure there were many before who never gained the prominence of either Baker or Smith.
