One of a team of six that first reached the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. The team consisted of Robert E. Perry, Matthew Henson and 4 Inuit: Ootah, Ooqueah, Seeglo and Egigingwah. As the expedition was led by Perry, history considers him to have been first to reach the pole.

∙ 14y agoRobert Peary and Matthew Henson are credited with reaching the North Pole on the 6th April 1909. Note I said credited, as there is considerable doubt that they did, thanks to Peary's bad navigation keeping, and his claims of fantastic daily mileage.
