A team of men from the US Army Air Service flew around the world in 1924.
Flying Douglas World Cruiser single engined biplanes, they flew from Seattle in April and after losing one aircraft to an accident, three of the aircraft arrived back in Seattle in September 1924, having flown 27,553 miles in 175 days.
In February 1949, a B-50 Superfortress (developed from the B-29) and named Lucky Lady II took off from Carswell AFB, TX for TEH FIRST NON-STOP FLIGHT around the world. She returned to Carswell AFB, TX after mid-air refueling, flying 23,108 miles (37,189 km), and remaining aloft for ninety-four hours and one minute.
The history of successful air travel can be traced back to the Wright Brothers in North Carolina. Air travel has marked several notable moments since then including Wiley Post who was the first male to fly around the world.
