Vojislav Kecmanović was the first President of Bosnia-Herzegovina when Bosnia and Herzegovina was part of Yugoslavia.

Alija Izetbegovic was the first President of an independent Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Kecmanović was the Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1945 April 26 to 1946 November.

Izetbegovic was the President of Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1990 December 20 to 1998 October 13, and again in 2000 from February 14 to October 14. During his presidency, Bosnia-Herzegovina was part of Yugoslavia from 1990 December 20 to 1992 September 3, when Bosnia-Herzegovina became independent. The new constitution went into effect 1996 October 5, and Izetbegovic became the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The position of Chairman eventually became a rotating position every 8 months.

Nikola Å?pirić is the Chairman of the Council of Ministers (or Prime Minister) of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He assumed office on 2007 January 11 after being appointed by the president. On November 1 of that year, he resigned in protest of parliamentary reforms. However after the crisis' resolution, he was renominated and re-assumed the position.

The Council of Ministers is the executive branch of government as opposed to the House of Representatives.

The current Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina is Željko Komšić the Croat representative. The other 2 members are Haris Silajdžić (Bosnian) and Nebojša Radmanović (Serb). The presidency rotates between these members every 8 months.
