On a European team led by Edward FitzGerald, Swiss climber and guide Matthias Zurbriggen was the first to summit on January 14, 1897, followed by a dual ascent by Stuart Vines and Nicola Lanti on February 13, 1897.

Kilimanjaro (19,330), and Aconcagua (22,841). Though he succeded whole heartedly he now lives with his wife, Ellen and daughter, Emma in the ROcky MOuntains of Colorado. He continues to climb today.
